VDI Technical Division Medical Technology

Medical technology is of great economic importance. Technical progress in medical technology and the finding of new approaches to solutions, such as minimally invasive treatment and operating methods or improved communication options using telemedicine etc., can only be achieved on an interdisciplinary basis. Maximum safety requirements must be complied with at all times. The elaboration of VDI Standards will make a significant contribution here.

In the Technical Division Medical Technology, the VDI offers actors from industry, research and science in conjunction with representatives of health insurance companies, hospitals and the political sphere a neutral interdisciplinary platform for building up personal networks. This allows future- and people-oriented concepts to be developed and implemented in medical technology.

This work is based in the common vision of establishing medical technology as an important partner in the value chain and as a reliable economic factor which can safeguard existing jobs and create many new ones.

Medical technology produces devices, products and technical methods known as ‘medical products’. These range from simple bandaging materials to highly complicated large-scale medical equipment and complete systems. This rapidly growing sector is characterized by extensive research and development effort.
