The GMA is a joint technical society of the

  • VDI (Association of German Engineers) and the
  • VDE (Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies),

in which all joint activities of the two organizations in the field of measurement and automation control are concentrated.

Our tasks:

  • Promotion of information exchange between industry, universities, scientific institutions and authorities
  • Elaboration of technical Standards, recommendations and technical and scientific publications, including preparation for standardization
  • Initiation and organization of congresses, professional conferences, discussion meetings and workshops to promote the flow of information on new techniques and developments
  • Cooperation in the planning and execution of training and further training activities
  • Representation of this technical division in international organizations
Around 1,000 engineers work on an honorary basis in the approx. 75 technical committees in the eight technical divisions.

The work of the GMA makes a significant contribution to the further development of measurement and automatic control and to disseminating knowledge of the modern technologies applied in this field today. The GMA is a competent partner for users, manufacturers and scientists, for whom it coordinates knowledge transfer and cooperation. It contributes to allowing processes to be influenced in a targeted way and rapidly implemented into innovative developments for industrial practice.

There is great interest in the work of the GMA, as is impressively documented by the number of members it has.

The GMA represents Germany in the international umbrella organizations for measurement and automatic control:

  • IMEKO International Measurement Confederation
  • IFAC International Federation of Automatic Control
