Energy and the environment are the main issues of our times. The future of the industrial society and of our way of life depends on the trends set here. Well-founded recommendations must therefore be given impartially and on the basis of all available technical and scientific knowledge. Only objective and well-coordinated decisions safeguard and create assets as well as stable foundations for the future. The finite nature of the available resources makes their efficient use and re-use our principal responsibility. For this reason, it is necessary to develop practically-oriented, forward-looking and financeable solutions for the environmentally sound extraction and consumption of raw materials and fossil fuels, noise reduction, the avoidance of air and soil pollution and the prevention and disposal of waste.

The VDI Society Energy and Environment merges technical and scientific information in the fields of energy and the environment and initiates discussion on the responsible handling of complex technology. It promotes innovations and provides VDI Standards and expertises for science, legislation and the practical sphere which ensure safety and instil confidence. It advises politicians and the public on current issues in an objective, technologically oriented way.

The technical work on these thematic complexes is carried out in the four technical divisions and 48 working committees of the VDI Society Energy and Environment (VDI-GEU). The committees are workshops for the future which give experts on energy and the environment the opportunity to compare notes. The VDI Society Energy and Environment and the committees attend to approx. 25.400 engineers and scientists in their functions as environmental consultants, energy technicians, health and safety experts etc.

The VDI Society Energy and Environment also attends to VDI members interested in the fields of air pollution prevention and acoustics/noise reduction.
