A tiny Universe of its own in the Drivetrain Sector
The growing electrification and automation of vehicles, banning certain engine types from entering congested urban areas as well as the reduction of CO2 emissions have an impact on the development of drivetrains and transmissions in the automotive industry. So far, an increasing diversification in the area of drivetrain technology seems to be the answer, but how will those mega trends affect development in the medium term? Satisfactory responses in line with technology-driven solutions are forthcoming at the international VDI-Congress “Drivetrain for Vehicles“ in Bonn on July 5 – 6, 2017.
The Congress will place its focus on innovations and novelties in the field of transmission development as well as the electrification of the powertrain and the challenges that are inherent with the design of conventional transmissions. This year the international get-together of experts in the transmission field will be held for the very first time at the World Conference Center in Bonn.
The electrification of the powertrain implies one of the mega trends in transmission development. This technical advancement has impacted the entire automotive industry and affects everyone from the manufacturers, the suppliers and subcontractors up to the drivers themselves: Making the switch to electrical operation entails a number of challenges in the adaptation of transmission concepts and elements and likewise compromises the layout of IT security in the vehicle drive system. In addition, the modification of the powertrain through various electrified components offers different ways of how to shape the entire vehicle.
The predicted impact and influence of the new electric and hybrid vehicles on the market in terms of suitability for mass production will indeed provide enough exciting food for discussion. Here the focus is placed on the requirements that electrified drive systems have to fullfil and how they inspire manufacturers and suppliers in engineering and mechatronics to propel innovative developments to new heights.
Top speakers include:
- Dipl.-Ing. Arnold Paluch, General Director, Global Manual Transmission & Electrification, Adam Opel AG, Rüsselsheim
- Alexander Mankowsky, Social Scientist, Daimler AG, Stuttgart
- Dr.-Ing. Stefan Sommer, CEO ZF Friedrichshafen AG, Friedrichshafen
- Prof. Christoph Ebert, Managing Director, Vector Consulting Services GmbH, Stuttgart
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Karsten Stahl, Full Professor, Institute of Machine Elements, Director of Gear Research Centre (FZG), Technical University of Munich, Garching
Facts and Figures:
- More than 80 international expert lectures
- More than 1,500 participants
- More than 100 international exhibitors at the trade show
- Two context-specific conferences held in parallel on “Control Solutions for Transmissions“and “Transmissions in Commercial Vehicles“
One of the highlights in Bonn is the accompanying trade show, which over the years has grown to become a major marketplace. More than 100 organisations from around the world present their solutions covering all aspects of the automotive transmission and its components.
The conference “Control Solutions for Transmissions“ will be held simultaneously where improvement potentials in the transmission control will be addressed which originate from new actuator and sensor systems as well as software developments. The VDI conference “Transmissions in Commercial Vehicles“ will be run at the same time. Here the focus will be placed on innovations and trends in the logistics sector and current developments in conventional and electrified drive systems, also considering the challenges in the manufacturing process that go along with that.
