Chairmanship: Dir. u. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz-Jörn Moriske, Federal Environmental Agency, Berlin

In indoor environments - i.e. in dwellings, offices, public facilities but also in motor vehicles - numerous pollutants can negatively influence our health. Mostly, we are exposed to these indoor air contaminants including e.g. formaldehyde, dioxins, PCB, plasticizers, microscopically small fibre and dust particles or moulds.

Many of these pollutants are released through emissions from indoor furnishings (like furniture, paints) or building materials. Guideline series VDI 4300 (measurement strategy), VDI 4301 (measurement techniques), VDI 4302 (odours) as well as standard series DIN ISO 16000 (measurement techniques), DIN EN ISO 16000 (measurement strategy) and DIN ISO 12219 (indoor air of road vehicles) provide instructions for planning and performing of indoor air measurements.

Besides active measurement methods also passive measurement methods as well as test chamber measurement methods are available for the examination of air quality elaborated by the working groups within the committee "Indoor air".
