Technical Division Industrial Information Technology

The Technical Division Industrial Information Technology of the VDI-GMA aims at analyzing the aspects of industrial automation which, being technological fundamentals, make a major contribution to the overall functionality without actually appearing in hardware form as sensors or actuators etc.
As a result of the demands made on them when used in industrial environments, industrial software and industrial communication differ considerably from software for the office field and components designed for communication purposes only. As parts of the automation infrastructure, they are less spectacular – provided they are reasonably priced and function without any restrictions whatsoever. They are often to be found as elementary components on all levels of the automation pyramid and are responsible for the simple and flexible configurability and parameterability of the equipment used and its versatile functionality.
In the last few years, the influence on industrial software of mass software from the consumer field has increased in proportion with the complexity of the individual components.

In this altered environment, the technical committees aim at providing the platform for an exchange of ideas between users and suppliers of industrial software and communication. The functional requirements of the users are compared with the functionalities of the technologies provided by the suppliers and subjected to critical discussion.
